Home Beer Arcade

If you want to experience the vicarious thrill of drinking and driving without the messy and embarrassing DUI arrests, community service, etc., then this product is for you! From their site:

“The Octane 120 is the ultimate in home arcade gaming, and combines
three things every adult gamer wants: classic arcade games, arcade-style
racing, and a beer tap to get your favorite beverage without having to get out
of the seat. Our High-end gaming PC is powerful enough to play today’s games
and the unit comes with 12 classis and modern driving games.”

The price on it is $6995 (plus s&h), but I did a quick search and a DUI arrest can cost up to “$20,000 in legal fees and related expenses,” so the Home Beer Arcade is a bargain.

That said, I do think the Home Beer Arcade is a pretty cool application of the home beer kegerator concept- not only is there a tower and faucet on top of the kegerator (stationed behind the driver’s seat), but the beer line is also routed to another faucet conveniently located near the driver’s right hand- and just above a cup (glass) holder.

Keg beer – cheaper and better

We recently added a new product to the site. It’s an EdgeStar 118 can beer and beverage refrigerator. I think the units we received look much nicer than the original sample we ordered and took pictures of. So I went to the local supermarket to pick up some cans of Miller Light to fill one for new pictures.

Why Miller? It’s relatively cheap, the can is blue- which I think will play well off the stainless steel trim- and it’s a popular beer around the office.

Since the unit holds 118 cans, I bought 5 suitcases of Miller (24 cans each). After I paid, I looked at the receipt and remembered one of the great things about keg beer- I paid $93.04 for 120 12oz cans of beer (11.25 gallons).

The grocery store is just down the street from NXNW (see earlier post) and I could have purchased a 15.5 gallon keg of craft beer from them for $99 plus tax.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with Miller Light (that’s my argument and I’m sticking to it), but to get more, better, draft, beer for just a little more money- that’s the way to go!

Beer launcher

I know this is old news, but hey- it’s a new blog! When we first heard of this beer launching refrigerator around the office, we perked up.

What a great way for people to get their first beer, or second, or maybe even their third. But by the fourth beer, the machine might replay that scene from “Maximum Overdrive” where the coke machine takes out the coach of a little league team and sends the kids scattering (warning- some graphic violence and adult language):

So, we decided not to follow up on this idea….

Let’s talk about beer…

Hello beer lover! Welcome to the first post on KegBlog, the unofficial mouthpiece of Kegerator.com.

Rather than get immediately into kegerators, I want to send a brief shout-out to my favorite drinking spot in Austin.

NXNW brews their own beer, and they usually have five beers on tap, plus a seasonal beer. Personally, I am a Bavarian Hefeweizen fan, but their Duckabish Amber is a crowd-pleaser.

Whenever I get a new keg (I haven’t taken the plunge into homebrew yet) I call up NXNW and they hook me up- and their prices are competitive with plain-jane liquor stores!
